Mixed sex accommodation statement
Nuffield Health is pleased to confirm that we are compliant with the Government’s requirement to eliminate mixed-sex accommodation, except when it is in the patient’s overall best interest or reflects their personal choice.
We have the necessary facilities, resources and culture to ensure that patients who are admitted to our hospital do not share accommodation or toilet facilities with members of the opposite sex. Sharing with members of the opposite sex will only happen when clinically necessary (for example where patients need specialist equipment such as stage 1 recovery, or HDU) or when patients actively choose to share, for example in an Oncology Suite (as of April 2012).
Published formulary
Nuffield Health Formulary – our position:
The following statements are made to clarify the position on Nuffield Health’s Formulary and the implementation of NICE Technology Appraisals (TA) for medicines.
- Publication and accessibility of Formulary (Reference SC27.1.1): Nuffield Health has a national formulary that uses the electronic British National Formulary (eBNF) as a platform. Nuffield Health does not have a local formulary because Consultants are engaged from various NHS Trusts/Foundation Trusts (FTs). The prescribing of medication for NHS patients is undertaken in accordance with the local formulary of the relevant NHS

- Relevant NICE Technology Appraisals (Reference SC27.1.2):Each Nuffield Health hospital is able to provide local information on the implementation of NICE Technology Appraisals (TA) which are relevant to the treatment of NHS patients in Nuffield Health.
- Availability of treatments recommended in positive NICE Technology Appraisals (Reference SC27.1.3): NICE TA are not always applicable since Nuffield Health does not necessarily provide the treatment under NHS contract. However, each Nuffield Health hospital will liaise with the NHS locally to ensure continuity of care for any NHS contract patients already receiving treatment
CQC status
All Nuffield Health locations providing regulated activities in England are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in accordance with The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and The Care Quality Commission (Registration) Regulations 2009 (and amendments thereunder).
Our hospitals in Edinburgh and Glasgow Scotland are registered with Health Improvement Scotland (HIS) and out Cardiff and Vale hospitals are registered with Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW).
All locations are subject to monitoring and rigorous inspection by the relevant regulatory body, and the outcomes of these inspections are published on the relevant regulators website.
In April 2015 a new regulation came into force in England, applying to all providers that have received a CQC performance assessment for their regulated activities.
Providers must ensure that their rating(s) are displayed conspicuously and legibly at each location delivering a regulated service and on their website. Nuffield Health complies with this regulation when performance assessments are provided by CQC, however, there will be a transitional period before new style ratings are available from the regulator.
ISO 9001
Nuffield Health are working with the British Standards Institute (BSI) to align our planning and delivery of services with the International Standard ISO9001.
CNST status
Since 1st April 2013, Nuffield Health has been a member of the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts, managed by the NHS Resolution. Membership of this scheme provides Indemnity cover for all consultants treating/operating on NHS patients in our English hospitals. CNST can also be used to cover work referred from NHS providers and confirmation of this is agreed when entering into local agreements with these providers.

Nuffield Health are compliant with the national Clinical Coding Framework as published by the Health & Social Care Information Centre
Monitor provider licence
As a provider of services on behalf of the NHS, Nuffield Health is required to hold a Licence, issued by the NHS Provider regulatory body, Monitor.
Nuffield Health were awarded this Monitor Provider Licence with effect from 1st April 2014, and each year are required to review our compliance with the conditions of the licence. The following statement sets out our compliance with this process, in the terms prescribed under the licence conditions:
Following a review for the purpose of paragraph 2(b) of licence condition G6, the Directors of the Licensee are satisfied that, in the financial year most recently ended, the Licensee took all such precautions as were necessary in order to comply with condition G6.

Carbon reduction & energy saving
Nuffield Health is working towards providing a sustainable health care service. At present Nuffield Health is focusing on carbon reduction measures through more efficient use of energy, and increasing re-use and recycling of waste that we produce. Nuffield Health is working towards achieving ISO 14001 certification to ensure we have an effective framework to manage our impact on the environment that is externally verified.
Through our partnerships in corporate wellbeing we are enabling organisations to keep their employees fit, happy and healthy, focusing on overall employee wellbeing programmes that actively reduces employees' health risks, and improves quality of life both at work and home.
