Marjorie makes a speedy recovery after Total Hip Replacement
- Overview
Meet Marjorie

As an active 88-year-old retired nurse with a passion for distance walking and keeping fit, suffering with unbearable hip pain, consequently made it impossible for Marjorie to continue with her favourite hobbies.
“The pain was severe and made even the simplest tasks unbearable. I couldn’t sit for long periods of time and, trying to sleep at night was horrendous, as the pain would often disrupt my sleep,” says Marjorie.
How a total hip replacement transformed Marjorie’s life
After undergoing a thorough examination and diagnostic testing by her GP, Marjorie was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease. Marjorie was then referred to Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital under the care of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Govilkar who confirmed that she would need a total hip replacement to alleviate her symptoms.
“My Consultant, Mr Govilkar, was wonderful, he explained the surgery in great detail which made me feel at ease and relieved any anxiety I had” she recalls.
Marjorie says that she is really pleased with the outcome of her hip replacement surgery- “I’m only ten weeks post-op and already, I feel so much better. I am now able to sleep during the night, without waking up in pain.”
“I feel much more confident doing day-to-day activities.”
Marjorie’s consultant, Mr Govilkar is extremely passionate and enthusiastic about making positive changes to enhance patient experience and quality of care.
“From my first consultation to being discharged, the whole experience has been excellent, I cannot fault anything! Everyone I came in contact with made me feel welcome and comfortable and I cannot praise the team enough,” she recalls.
Thriving after successful hip surgery
Marjorie was happy to share that she recently completed a 3K walk and is looking forward to returning to keep-fit classes.
“Thank you to Mr Govilkar and everyone at Nuffield Health North Staffordshire Hospital who was involved in my journey and recovery. I am finally able to get back to the things I enjoy without having to worry about suffering in pain”.
