Nuffield Health announces partnership with Florence Nightingale Foundation to celebrate Florence Nightingale's 200th year
- Overview
We have been announced as one of the sponsors for The Florence Nightingale Foundation who will be celebrating the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale’s birth during 2020 that has been designated the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
This is a year-long global initiative to celebrate the role of nurses and midwives and will look forward to how the nursing and midwifery community will work to strengthen the voice of the professions. As part of our role as sponsor, we will run a number of activities throughout the year to support and advocate for the roles of nurses and midwives.
On Thursday 16th January, we will sponsor a special launch event for the Florence Nightingale Foundation to be held at the House of Lords.
We are also participating in The Nightingale Challenge, to equip and empower the next generation of nurses and midwives during 2020. Throughout the year, employers are being encouraged to provide leadership and development training to 20,000 nurses and midwives under the age of 35 to shape the future of healthcare. We have accepted the challenge to invest in the development of future healthcare leaders through mentoring, coaching and training.
Carol Kefford, our Clinical Director and Chief Nurse, said, “We are delighted to be able to support the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife and celebrate the important contribution they make to healthcare. To be able to partner the Florence Nightingale Foundation provides us with a fantastic opportunity to focus developing nurse leaders of the future and to shine a light on, the fantastic work that nurses and midwives do day-in day-out.”
Greta Westwood, Chief Executive Officer of the Florence Nightingale Foundation, said, “I am delighted that Nuffield Health have chosen to support us during such a special year for the Foundation as we celebrate the life and achievements of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. We are very grateful to Nuffield Health for sponsoring our 2020 launch event at the House of Lords as we celebrate Florence and our scholars who continue her legacy. This is a landmark year for nurses and midwives across the globe and it’s wonderful to have the support of Nuffield Health and is an opportunity for us to work with an organisation dedicated to advocating for nurses and midwives.”
