Nuffield Health Tees Hospital receives outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission

Nuffield Health Tees Hospital has received the highest possible rating of excellence by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in February 2017.

The hospital was visited over two days by a team of four inspectors and a number of specialist advisors with expertise in  governance, surgery, outpatients, theatre management, nursing and medicine, who scrutinised all areas of the hospital’s practice and determined it to be an ‘outstanding hospital’.

Nuffield Health Tees Hospital now celebrates being the only independent hospital north of Leeds with an outstanding rating. This news sees 94% of Nuffield Health hospitals reviewed by regulators to date to have a rating of good or outstanding.

The CQC ensures health and social care services in England provide people with safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care and also inspects services to make sure they meet fundamental standards below which care must never fall. CQC awards a rating based on the findings from the inspection. The four ratings are outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate. The inspection focuses on five key areas that are important to patients and the public; these are safety, effectiveness, patient care, responsiveness and leadership. The published report highlighted a number of outstanding practices at the Nuffield Health Tees Hospital including:

  • The care provided was outstanding due to patients’ being treated with courtesy and respect and their privacy and dignity were maintained and promoted. There was also a strong culture that placed the patient at the centre of everything staff did within the organisation. This was practiced by every member of staff, clinical and non-clinical.
  • The hospital was managed by a dedicated and proactive leadership team, who had an inspiring shared purpose and aimed to motivate staff to succeed.
  • Services were planned and developed to meet the needs of the local people, which included flexibility, choice and continuity of care through access to post-surgical therapy services.

Lesley Lock, Hospital Director at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital comments: “We are delighted to have been awarded an outstanding rating following our recent CQC inspection. Delivering exceptional care is always our first priority. We are extremely proud of our team who really do go the extra mile – it is a fantastic achievement and one which we are all committed to maintaining in the future.”
