In diabetic patients, high levels of blood sugar can cause the small blood vessels in the back of your eye to stretch or tear.
This is called diabetic retinopathy.

Very often there are no symptoms of diabetic eye disease. If you are diabetic (type 1 and type 2) you should have a full eye exam at least once per year.
