About
Dr Al-Araji graduated in 1977 from the University of Baghdad and completed his postgraduate training in General Medicine and Neurology in Iraq and the UK. His MRCP (UK) was granted in 1986. His postgraduate neurology training included general neurology, neuroimaging, clinical neurophysiology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation medicine, intensive care, neuro-ophthalmology, neuropsychiatry and research methodology.
Dr Al-Araji has gained thorough experience in the management of a wide variety of neurological conditions including Headaches, Movements Disorders, Stroke, Cognitive difficulties, Nerve and Muscle problems, during more than thirty years’ experience as a Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Academic. He continued his career in Neurology as a visiting Associate Professor of Neurology, at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, up to his appointment as Consultant Neurologist at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in 2004.
In his last post as a Consultant Neurologist at the regional neuroscience centre in Stoke on Trent, Dr Al-Araji’s (October 2004- June 2022) duties included general neurology and specialised out-patients’ clinics, on call duties for acute neurology take and a minimum of two ward rounds per week for in-patients.
Dr Al-Araji has a special interest in inflammatory and demyelinating neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis and others. He was the clinical director of the Royal Stoke MS Centre of Excellence.
His other duties also included teaching and supervising undergraduates of Keele Medical School during their neurology placement and postgraduate neurology trainees.

Dr Al-Araji has had more than 20 papers published in peer-reviewed journals such as Neurosciences, JNNP, Journal of Neurological Sciences, Multiple Sclerosis and the Lancet. He has also published three books on Brucellosis, Behcet’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
