About

Dr Schenk qualified as a medical doctor in 1992 and as a specialist psychiatrist in 2000. He has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in South Africa and the NHS services for a period of over 7 years before being appointed as a staff consultant at the Priory Hospital, Southampton in 2007 and visiting consultant at the Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital in April 2013. He maintains over 500 outpatient consultations a year and is always enthusiastic to take on new clients.

Prior to specialising he worked as a GP with a special interest in Chronic Fatigue (ME). Dr Schenk has been in charge of biological psychiatry unit as well as a psychotherapy unit assisting those with personality difficulties. He has worked in liaison psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and eating disorders in urban as well as rural settings. His work outside of the UK has also afforded him a valuable cross cultural perspective on psychiatry and he has completed parts 1 and 2 of the USMLE examinations (American Medical Licensing exams).

Although he has trained in and employs a biological/medical model of psychiatry he has experience in assisting individuals with non-pharmacological methods as well. For those who feel they may benefit from a more holistic approach Dr Schenk could advise on nutritional, exercise, general lifestyle and the utility of other complementary methods. He strongly believes in tailoring an individual approach suited to your specific needs.

Other interests

In addition to clinical work Dr Schenk has enjoyed lecturing medical students and MRCPsych candidates. He is also regularly requested to undertake psychiatric assessments for medico-legal purposes as well as fitness to practice hearings.

Personal interests

Dr. Schenk enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, inline skating, archery and photography. He is currently furthering his hobby as a gym instructor/personal trainer.
