About

Dr Andrew Klein is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital and Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. He has a long interest in anaemia management and was one of the first clinicians to highlight the problems of anaemia in patients undergoing surgery. He has set up one of the first preoperative pathways for intravenous iron therapy in heart surgery.

Dr Klein sees patients with iron deficiency and B12 deficiency (pernicious anaemia) and undertakes intravenous iron infusions as well as teaching patients how to self-inject with B12. He also tests for the causes of anaemia dn treats the anaemia.

Dr Klein runs the Cambridge Iron Clinic at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital.

Dr Andrew Klein has published a number of articles on anaemia, iron and B12 deficiency and is involved with and leading a number of national and international multicentre trials investigating the impact of intravenous iron infusions on patient outcomes after surgery.
