Dr Christopher Bower

Dr Bower is a Consultant Dermatologist practicing at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Bower graduated from Edinburgh University (MB ChB) with additional BSc (Hons) in pharmacology. He spent time training in both medicine and surgery at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, and the Royal Brisbane Hospital, Brisbane. He completed dermatology training at the Bristol Dermatology Centre before taking up the post of Consultant Dermatologist at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust Hospital in 2001.

Dr Bower's key clinical interests lie in the prevention and surgical and non-surgical treatment of skin cancer, particularly non-melanoma skin cancer (basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas). He set up the photodynamic therapy treatment service for skin cancer at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. He performs over 1000 skin surgery procedures per year and is Chairman of the Exeter Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team. Ongoing data collection shows high level of skin lesion diagnostic accuracy and successful skin cancer surgery outcomes.

Dr Bower’s general dermatology practice focuses on effective communication of diagnosis and management. The philosophy of his clinical work is to put the patient at the centre of the consultation, and to reach management decisions collectively.
