About

Dr Chris Broyd is a highly regarded consultant cardiologist with wide-ranging experience in all aspects of cardiology care. His expertise includes diagnosing and managing patients with chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and blackouts. In addition, Dr Broyd has advanced skills in cardiac intervention. He is trained in all aspects of angioplasty (stent implantation) including cutting-edge techniques such as coronary rotablation and lithotripsy. He is also a structural heart disease specialist and performs procedures such as minimally invasive valve implantation (including TAVI) and cardiac hole closures.

Dr Broyd qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ in 2003 and has a PhD from Imperial College London. His cardiology training was across some of the most prestigious cardiac centres in London including Bart’s, Harefield and Hammersmith Hospitals. He has significant international experience as well having undertaken an advanced fellowship at Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid. He is also one of the few cardiologists to have achieved consultant qualifications in both the UK and Australia and has worked as a consultant in both countries acquiring a huge breadth of experience.

Dr Broyd strives to provide a personalised approach to all patients and prides himself on his empathetic, caring and kind manner.

Personal interests

Dr Broyd has a number of interests outside of medicine. During his training, he took a year out of cardiology to develop his musical interests and was awarded a diploma in modern music with merit. He still plays several instruments and is the bass player in a 10-piece band.

Chris also has participated in numerous previous sporting ‘quests’ and has run the Brighton marathon. He also has completed both the 3 peak UK mountain challenge as well as the 14 peak Welsh mountain challenge. He now enjoys walking and biking in the Sussex Downs.

Research

Dr Broyd has a strong academic career in addition. He has a PhD from Imperial College London and has held an Associate Professor role at Griffith’s University. He was a finalist for the AHA Young Investigator of the Year award and has multiple international publications. He has presented his research at international conferences. He is both a PhD supervisor and examiner.

His main research interest is in cardiovascular physiology and in particular non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular health using complex but meaningful investigative techniques. He is an accomplished programmer and is now focused on the use of machine learning to diagnose and improve cardiac health.
