About

Dr Martin is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist with over a decade of experience performing cardiac procedures.
She works as an NHS Consultant at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, UK, and her private practice is at the Nuffield Hospital Cambridge as well as at Royal Papworth Hospital. Her clinical expertise is in all areas of cardiac rhythm management.
Her scope of practice includes:
  • Ablation of ventricular arrhythmias including ventricular ectopics and ventricular tachycardia
  • Ablation of atrial arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and SVT
  • Implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation device 
  • Evaluation of familial cardiac conditions
  • Diagnosis and treatment of palpitations, blackouts and dizziness

She undertook undergraduate and clinical training at Cambridge University (Gonville and Caius College). She then completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge funded by a Medical Research Council Training Fellowship, and for this was awarded the British Cardiovascular Society Young Research Workers’ Prize. After specialist training at Royal Papworth Hospital, she undertook clinical fellowships at two world-leading cardiac centres: Barts Heart Centre and the Hopital du Haut-Leveque, Bordeaux, through funding from a prestigious European Society of Cardiology Training Grant. She took up a joint clinical and research Consultant position at Royal Papworth Hospital in 2018.

Personal interests

Dr Martin is a keen swimmer and cyclist. She plays water polo and has competed at international level. She is currently a member of the GB Triathlon Team at age group level. She also plays the cello, saxophone and piano.

Dr Martin conducts and manages research into novel ablation treatments for arrhythmias and into how new cardiac devices can improve clinical outcomes. She has led several multi-centre clinical trials and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. Her research has been supported by the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the European Society of Cardiology and the British Heart Foundation, as well as industry partners such as Boston Scientific, Biosense Webster, Medtronic, Abbot, and Acutus Medical.
