Dr Collins held an ARC research grant and was awarded his doctorate (M.D.) for research into bone cell biology in 1992 under supervision of Professor Tim Chambers in London. He achieved specialist recognition in General (Internal) Medicine and Rheumatology in 1995
He was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist to Great Western Hospital Swindon in 1995 and awarded fellowship of both the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Ireland and London in 1998.
Dr Collins practices in all aspects of clinical rheumatology and holds general rheumatology clinics in Swindon, Cirencester and Fairford and also a specialist bone health clinic in Swindon.
Other interests
Dr Collins has held the posts of Clinical Director for acute medicine and then for non - acute medicine in his time, and is currently Director of Research for the Trust and Vice Chair of the Western Comprehensive Local Research Network Board. He is Royal College of Physician’s regional speciality advisor for the Oxford region.
