Dr David Gertner

Dr David Gertner is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital specialising in Inflammatory bowel disease, Upper GI gastroenterology,  and nutrition.

Dr Gertner has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician at Basildon for more than 20 years. He has a broad range of experience and competence in all areas of gastroenterological practice including inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, gastrointestinal cancer. He is a highly competent endoscopist with certification as an advanced bowel cancer screening colonoscopist. He leads the hospital upper GI cancer group and had been the Regional Network Chair for upper GI cancer for some years until relinquishing his post in 2019.

Dr Gertner is the Clinical Effectiveness Lead for the Trust with responsibility for a wide range of clinical quality issues with particular reference to NICE guidance and quality standards.

Dr Gertner was the Clinical Director for Medicine and Emergency Care for the Trust for many years with responsibilty for managerial, administrative and financial areas in a huge Directorate.
Dr Gertner prides myself on his teaching achievements winning the Top teacher award from UCLH on more than one occasion. He spends regular time teaching medical students, junior doctors and nurses.  He is a very keen team player with close links with all staff including nurse specialists, administrators and managers. He consistently receives excellent feedback for all areas of his work.

Dr Gertner makes sure that he keeps up to date with his skills and competencies and rigorously and robustly monitors his clinical and endoscopic performance.
