About
David Lockington has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow, since January 2014, with sub-specialist training in Cornea, Cataract and Anterior Segment. Following 2 years in the Northern Ireland ophthalmic rotation, he moved to Glasgow in 2007 for his Registrar ophthalmology training throughout the West of Scotland. From 2012-13 he undertook an advanced Cornea and Anterior Segment fellowship with Professor Charles McGhee at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Such an extensive training base ensures confidence and competence, and David’s relaxed and clear communication style is greatly appreciated by his patients, with extremely positive feedback comments.
*Please refer to a few of Dr Lockington's patient testimonials below*
"Dr Lockington is an outstanding eye surgeon. His skill is remarkable. He rescued my eyes which were completely obscured by extremely dense, medicine-induced cataracts which were challenging to remove."
"Dr Lockington has a very relaxed and calm disposition, all the qualities you admire in a true professional."
"Dr Lockington understood my problem, had a great solution and was very reassuring throughout the operation. I couldn't ask for more."
He has a keen interest in research and teaching, having now achieved over 120 peer-reviewed publications (despite always being in full-time clinical work), and has received 11 awards for his research and multiple oral presentations. He graduated from the 2017-19 European Society of Ophthalmology’s Leadership Development programme as the UK representative, and used these skills to develop a bespoke simulation hub for ophthalmic training in Glasgow.
David is actively involved in cataract and corneal teaching as an in-demand invited speaker and trainer at national and international eye meetings. He is the President-elect for the UK & Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS), is editor of EYENEWS magazine, and was recently honoured to be included in “The Ophthalmologist” magazine’s Top 100 Power List of the most influential ophthalmologists globally for 2024.
While referrals from GPs or optometrists are
preferred, Dr Lockington is happy to see self-referrals too.
