About
Gareth Lewis qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2002. Prior to radiology training his clinical background was in surgery, completing basic surgical training across most surgical specialties and a year of higher surgical training in colorectal surgery. He was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2006.
Dr Lewis trained as a Clinical Radiologist in Sussex and underwent subspecialty training in gastrointestinal imaging, interventional radiology, endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound at the Royal Free Hospital, London and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
He was appointed as a Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist in Brighton in 2013 and undertakes all forms of contrast study and cross sectional imaging pertaining to the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreatic systems, with a dedicated interest in oncology.
He has extensive experience of CT colonography (‘Virtual Colonoscopy’), and is a recognised Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Radiologist.
He leads the Endoscopic Ultrasound cancer staging service at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation trust, a regional tertiary referral centre for Oesophagogastric Cancer Surgery, and has a busy oncology interventional practice.
Since his consultant appointment he has held a number of positions including Clinical Lead for Radiology, Lead Gastrointestinal Radiologist and Radiology Lead for the Sussex Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

Upper and Lower gastrointestinal imaging, including Small bowel enterography and virtual colonoscopy.
Hepatobiliary and pancreatic imaging.
