Dr Grant has worked in the NHS as a clinical psychologist for 19 years. Her main speciality is supporting people affected by cancer. She has experience of other specialties within clinical health psychology, including neuro rehabilitation, pain management, women’s health, critical care, long-term effects of Covid, and palliative care.

Dr Grant has worked in a various NHS settings caring for people with cancer. The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, the Dimbleby Cancer Care at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the Macmillan Palliative Care Service at the Hillingdon Hospital, and her current role at the Berkshire Cancer Centre at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Grant’s expertise is in the psychological and social aspects of personal and family adjustment to illness and its consequences, including treatment decisions, coping, managing distress, adjustment and recovery, managing fatigue, returning to work, living with advanced disease, and adjusting to end-of-life care. She draws on CBT, compassion, mindfulness, models of loss and grief, systemic and psychoanalytic approaches.

Specific issues may include dealing with worry and uncertainty, low mood, stress, traumatic experiences in treatment, body image and sexuality, relationships with partners, family and healthcare professionals, and the long-term effects of treatment.

Psychological care is tailored for people with past experience of early life adversity, trauma, or mental health difficulties, and who require cancer-specific psychological input over and above their current or past mental health input.
