About
Dr Mark Westwood has been a Consultant Cardiologist since 2009. He has a specific interest in cardiac MRI (CMR) where he previously set up the entire CMR service at the London Chest Hospital which grew to become one of the largest CMR departments in the UK.
Mark is the current President of the British Society of Cardiac MRI (BSCMR) which is the UK’s national representative body for CMR. He currently works at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, one of the largest heart centers in Europe. He also has interests in cardiac CT scanning of the heart and cardio-oncology which looks at the effects of cancer treatments on the heart.
Special interests
He has a strong interest in training and education and is the Training Programme Director for cardiology training in North East London and the Vice Chair of the Cardiology Speciality Advisory Committee, the UK’s national body for cardiology training in the UK. He leads several examinations in cardiology across Europe as the lead for certification for EACVI, the cardiac imaging section of the European Society of Cardiology. He also has other roles in Europe around postgraduate assessment and training.

Mark has published on the use of cardiac MRI (CMR) to assess the severity of coronary artery disease (the process which leads to narrowing of the heart arteries). He also published in the use of (CMR) worldwide and improving access for developing nations. He has also published several guidelines on training in cardiology both at national and international level.
