Dr Nigel Jones

Dr Nigel Jones is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine. He has worked in elite sport for 30 years and is the current Chief Medical Officer for British Cycling. Nigel has recently returned from the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Prior to his current role he was Doctor to the England Men’s Senior Rugby Team. He has also worked at Liverpool Football Club, the English Institute of Sport and the British Boxing Board of Control. Nigel is a former Chair of Education for the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and a former Chair of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM).

He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Liverpool University and has published several peer reviewed research papers and articles in the British Journal of Sports Medicine and other Sports Medicine publications.

Nigel has many years of experience in treating athletes of all abilities – weekend warriors through to elite professionals. Whatever level of physical activity you engage in: an accurate diagnosis and an individually tailored management plan are vital. From running related foot pain to rugby related shoulder pain you can be assured of the same care and attention that he gives to the elite athletes under his care.

Nigel’s sports of special interest are Rugby, Football, Cycling and Boxing. He has extensive expertise in the management of concussion and the diagnosis/treatment of shoulder, knee and ankle injuries. He is passionate about his work and all patients can be assured of the highest quality of care.
