About

Mr Pankaj Agarwal graduated from the University of Kolkata, India, in 1997 and underwent both basic and higher specialist training in ophthalmology in Glasgow, where he also completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma. He was the first to publish evidence suggesting a role for itraconazole in the treatment of fungal corneal ulcers. He has been a Consultant in Edinburgh, UK, since 2010 and currently leads the Glaucoma Service in NHS Lothian.

Mr Agarwal is the Training Programme Director for Ophthalmology in the South-East region of the Scotland Deanery. He was a member of the SIGN Glaucoma Guideline Group and serves as a principal investigator in several international research projects, including EAGLE and TAGS.

He was also a co-researcher in the University of Edinburgh group that developed the SVOP (Saccadic Vector Optokinetic Perimetry) device for visual field testing in glaucoma patients.

Mr Agarwal has over 35 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, has co-authored a book chapter, and is regularly invited to review papers for leading ophthalmology journals. He has delivered numerous invited lectures at both national and international meetings.

His main interests include shared care glaucoma services and patient awareness in glaucoma. He started the first patient support group meeting in Scotland in collaboration with the International Glaucoma Association (IGA), and continues to work on raising awareness and supporting patients with glaucoma both in the UK and internationally.
