About

Dr Ray Mathew is a Gastroenterologist with expertise in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine and interventional endoscopy. His NHS base is at The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.

He trained in the West Midlands and has worked previously at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and the former Mid Staffordshire NHS FT. He has been the Clinical Director of Gastroenterology, the Clinical Director of Endoscopy and Lead Clinician for Cancer in these former organisations. He has designed and built 3 JAG Accredited Endoscopy Units and has an active role in local and regional Endoscopy and Cancer service restoration, recovery and redesign.

Dr Mathew has established a large clinical practice in the management of acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disorders, irritable bowel syndrome and gastrointestinal cancer and is active in clinical research and training. His areas of specialist expertise include the management of gastrointestinal cancer, pancreatic disease and disorders of the bile duct.

In addition to advanced gastroscopy and colonoscopy, he is an expert in ERCP, cholangioscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound EUS. He is an endoscopy trainer and is faculty at the Shrewsbury and Telford Endoscopy Training Centre. He is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Royal College of Physicians of London, the British Medical Association, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterological Association.
