Richard qualified from UCL in 1997 after delaying his training with a detour into the history of medicine.

Anaesthetic and Pain training in the South East culminated in a Consultant post in 2007. Rather cunningly he saved his last training assignment 'til last by undergoing emergency spinal surgery the very week he was meant to start. Since then a career in anaesthesia and pain medicine has been embellished with 8 years as the training director and regional advisor of South East Pain Training at the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He is a member of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists.

The following form the majority of Richard’s clinical practice:

Back pain and sciatica. Neck pain and brachialgia. Spinal intervention including injection therapy (epidurals, nerve injection, joint injections and radiofrequency denervation). Neuropathic pain (Neuralgia). Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. Fibromyalgia and widespread pain. Visceral pain. Post-surgical pain. Complex analgesia management. Opioid management.
