About
Dr Subramanian has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist for 14 years. He has extensive experience in the investigation and management of gastrointestinal disorders, his specific expertise is in the management of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). He underwent extensive clinical and research training in IBD including a dedicated fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University, Boston for a year.
He was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool Hospital in October 2009 and moved to Addenbrooke's in 2021. His main interests include IBD, colonoscopy and clinical research in IBD. He has published peer reviewed articles in leading gastroenterology journals and authored several book chapters.
Sree specialises in the investigation and management of the inflammatory bowel diseases, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease and is an accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopy provider. He manages a wide variety of gastrointestinal conditions such as abdominal pain, dyspepsia, coeliac disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
Dr Subramanian has performed over 5,000 gastroscopies, colonoscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies and is an accredited bowel cancer screening endoscopist with extensive experience in removing polyps from the colon.
He is a member of the national inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) clinical committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology and he previously served as a member of the IBD national research committee. In addition, he was a lead for gastroenterology research for the North West Coast Clinical Research Network for seven years.

Research
During his my research fellowship Dr Subramanian investigated the role of bacteria in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colon cancer. He still maintains an active interest in gut bacterial research and continues to do active clinical research in IBD having published several peer reviewed articles in leading gastroenterology journals in the field of IBD.
His current research interests centre around personalised medicine and he holds two grants from Crohn's and Colitis UK. He is also a co-investigator for a large randomised trial of infliximab in acute pancreatitis. During the COVID-19 pandemic he investigated the role of vitamin D in COVID-19.
He is an associate editor for Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
