About
Miss Kathryn Hillaby is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Nuffield Health Cheltenham Hospital. She qualified as a Doctor in 1998 from the Royal Free Hospital in London with distinction in Obstetrics and gynaecology.
Miss Hillaby completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in and around London, spending an additional two years in research at King's College Hospital, which led to an MD thesis from the University of London on the use of non-invasive techniques to differentiate between cancerous and non-cancerous ovarian cysts.
Miss Hillaby also undertook a fellowship to be a women's cancer specialist in one of the biggest UK women's cancer centres, in Birmingham. She has subsequently been appointed as a Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology at Cheltenham General Hospital, which is a regional cancer centre, providing surgical care for women with gynaecological cancer from Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Wiltshire.
Miss Hillaby is an experienced surgical gynaecologist who specialises in treating women with gynaecological cancer (cancer of the womb, ovary, vulva and cervix) as well as general gynaecological problems. She is also accredited in colposcopy (the management of smear test abnormalities) as well as gynaecological ultrasound, and is also trained in the use of laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including keyhole hysterectomy. She is competent in treating a wide range of gynaecological problems, and has a special interest in managing women with vulval problems.

Research
Miss Hillaby is very involved in clinical research at Cheltenham and Gloucester NHS Hospitals, currently being the principal investigator for several clinical trials. She has a BSc in Molecular Medicine, as well as spending an additional 2 years in research at King's College Hospital, which culminated in the award of an MD thesis from the University of London on non-invasive techniques to differentiate cancerous from non-cancerous ovarian cysts.
Miss Hillaby has many publications as a result of her research including papers on benign and malignant gynaecology. She is currently involved in writing further papers, and in recruiting patients to take part in clinical trials in women's cancer in the NHS, and supervising research.
She has been invited to lecture on her research in the UK and internationally, both to qualified doctors and trainees, and has authored several chapters in postgraduate textbooks on gynaecological cancers, and gynaecological ultrasound. She has also been involved in writing national guidelines for the management of gynaecological conditions.
