About
Mr El Ashmawy is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the management of trauma and problems related to the hip, knee and pelvis. He has expertise in Hip and knee Arthroplasty including total hip/knee replacement, partial knee replacement, periprosthetic fractures and Revision Arthroplasty. He has a subspecialist interest in Knee arthroscopy, knee sports injuries and trauma including Pelvis surgery.
He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2018, then subsequently commenced his first senior Arthroplasty fellowship at University Hospitals Plymouth where he had more subspecialty training in Hip and knee Arthroplasty alongside Trauma surgery. He then started a knee and hip fellowship at the internationally renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford in which he gained further expertise in partial and total knee replacement, revision knee surgery, management of bone and joint infections, knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction. He then completed his last senior fellowship at King’s College London University hospitals in which he had more experience in hip and knee arthroplasty and trauma including pelvis and acetabular trauma surgery.
Mr El Ashmawy has a special interest in research. He has multiple publications and presentations at international conferences. He completed his Master’s and PhD degrees in Orthopaedics, with the PhD thesis on using metaphyseal augments in revision knee surgery.
Mr El Ashmawy's additional roles include audit lead for the Trauma and Orthopaedic department, medical students clinical supervisor for Peninsula Medical School, reviewer for The Journal of Arthroplasty and Lecturer of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Alexandria.
