About
Alastair Lamb is an academic consultant urological surgeon and associate professor who lives and undertakes private practice in Oxford but, since December 2024, has worked at the world-renowned Guy's Hospital and Barts Cancer Institute in London. Before this, he worked at Oxford University Hospitals from April 2017 to September 2024 and joined Oxford Urology Associates in May 2018. Before coming to Oxford, he completed a one-year robotic specialty training fellowship at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia, in 2016. His medical studies were at Oxford and Edinburgh Universities, with initial surgical training in Edinburgh and higher surgical training in Cambridge, including a PhD in cancer biology with Professor David Neal.
He is active in basic science research to provide a robust molecular platform for accurate decision-making in localised prostate cancer. He has published in Nature, Lancet Oncology, BMJ, European Urology and other specialty-specific journals (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=lamb+ad&sort=date). Since 2020, he has been the prostate cancer Section Editor at the British Journal of Urology International. Cancer Research UK currently funds him as an Advanced Clinician Scientist Fellow and runs a research group called the SPACE Group (Spatial Prostate Assessment and the Circulating Environment; https://youtu.be/YdzF0-PFXhc).
Clinically, his focus is to deliver excellent and timely prostate cancer care to men referred with suspicion of prostate cancer, focusing on state-of-the-art diagnostics with multiparametric MRI, PSMA-PET scanning and targeted transperineal biopsies, followed by robotic-radical prostatectomy RARP or active surveillance where appropriate. He works closely with radiation oncology colleagues to ensure that all patients are offered comprehensive counselling regarding available treatment options.
