About

Amir Morgan completed his preclinical training in 1989 before joining medical school as a National Scholar for his clinical training and graduation in 1995. Early surgical training followed by a five-year Specialist Registrar Training in Surgical Oncology was completed at the National Cancer Institute “UICC”, The international Directory of Cancer Institutes and Organizations.

His higher surgical training included a two-year in clinical research evaluating long term surgical outcome following Colorectal cancer treatment completed in 1999. He was awarded his Master’s Degree in Surgery. He then spent three years researching Neuroblastoma, an abdominal malignancy and was awarded his Ph.D. in Surgical oncology due to his achievements in this field.

Added to six years second Higher surgical training programme gaining further experience in Addenbrooke’s and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals, Mr. Morgan enhanced his experience in the subspecial science of treating incontinence in Bristol Royal Infirmary and the Middlesex University Hospital, London.

Mr. Morgan was awarded the National Traveling Fellowship of GBI where he joined the Schubart-Martin Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA exploring the art of IBD and Pouch surgery in young adults.

Mr. Morgan also joined the Colorectal Team at Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand as the prestigious International Fellow in recurrent rectal and advanced pelvic cancer working with internationally recognized Pioneers in this field.

The European Institute of Tele-Surgery, University of Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France and Hamburg, Germany were other international centers where he completed his advanced Laparoscopic Training. 

Mr. Morgan was appointed to the Ipswich Hospital as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in August, 2014, There he contributes to the Colorectal Unit expansion and modernization aiming at delivering the excellent surgical care.

Colorectal Surgery:
Diverticular disease, colon cancer, rectal cancer, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, pouch surgery
General Surgery:
Hernias, cholecystectomy, pilonidal sinus.

Personal interests

Mr.Morgan is committed to teaching and training the next generation of surgeons, He has taken the role of modernizing the surgical teaching at Ipswich Hospital. He is an Educational and a Clinical supervisor, He is in charge of Junior doctors surgical teaching and helps them exploring the journey to success. He has taught on many surgical courses and is actively working on developing an up-to-date curriculum for surgical teaching.

Research

Mr. Morgan’s doctoral thesis examined the various treatment techniques and the possible contributing factors in resistance to treatment of intra-abdominal cancers. He provided a cornerstone protocol of treatment as an outcome of his research. Mr. Morgan also published on the impact of Diabetes on Cancer's response to treatment following conducting a laboratory based research in Bristol University. His second Thesis on Colorectal Cancer treatment outcome was one of the pioneer research works delivering attention to the quality of patient's life after receiving treatment. He has maintained a strong interest in clinical research in NHS and has several publications in different aspects of colorectal surgery. Recent work includes:

  • Surgical Treatment of Colorectal Cancer in the Elderly, Analysis of the impact on Survival in the various age groups
  • Sexual function and quality of life After Rectal Cancer Treatment
  • Anal Pain and Pelvic Floor disorders.
  • Psychological support for Adolescence and young Adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Incontinence, Aging or a Treatable condition
