About
Mr Anil Tailor is a Consultant Gynaecologist working at Royal Surrey County Hospital and St Peter's Hospital. He also sees patients privately at the Nuffield Health Hospital in Guildford. He has a wealth of experience in treating a wide range of gynaecological conditions including gynaecological cancers of ovary, womb, cervix and vulva and other benign conditions such as abnormal vaginal bleeding, abnormal smears and colposcopy, and ovarian cysts.
Mr Tailor is highly experienced in performing gynaecological procedures, he offers pelvic ultrasound scans, as well as laparoscopic and robotic surgeries (Da Vinci robot) for hysterectomies. When patients are referred to him for suspected cancer, they will receive both a full examination as well as a pelvic ultrasound, reducing the time spent in hospital.
Mr Tailor participates in research and has published work and presented at conferences nationally and internationally. His previous research interests have been on pelvic ultrasound and its uses in characterising ovarian cysts. Currently, his research activities are on cancer management and robotic surgery.
Mr Tailor was one of the founding clinicians of the British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecological Surgeons (BIARGS) and continues to actively engage in the teaching of robotic surgery to other surgeons.
Special interests
Mr Anil Tailor’s main interests in gynaecology are in helping women who may have a suspicion of cancer with symptoms such as abnormal vaginal bleeding (including postmenopausal bleeding or intermenstrual or postcoital bleeding), ovarian cysts, abnormal smears, abnormal tumour markers (CA125), cervical polyps, vulval lumps, unexplained persistent bloating, and unexplained pelvic pain.
Mr Tailor also commonly sees patients with heavy or painful periods and menopause symptoms and also sees patients who have been offered open surgery by another gynaecologist but would prefer keyhole surgery for quicker recovery.
Mr Tailor prefers not to see patients whose main complaint is that of urinary incontinence or vaginal prolapse or infertility. He also does not see patients with pregnancy-related problems such as miscarriages or ectopic pregnancies.
