About
Mr Malik is one of few colorectal surgeons in the country with specialist qualifications in the sub-specialty of colorectal surgery. He was the first surgeon in the UK to be awarded the Lars Pahlman award for outstanding performance in European Board coloproctology examinations. He trained in East Anglian higher surgical training scheme, rotating through Addenbrookes and Norwich Hospitals. He also underwent higher surgical training in India, where he topped in postgraduate examinations to enter the higher surgical training programme, and was awarded a merit scholarship.
Mr Malik was awarded Chief Residency by Health Education East of England whilst at Addenbrookes Hospital, which lead to the successful completion of a year’s Healthcare leadership programme at the famous Churchill College, University of Cambridge.
Special interests
Mr Arshad Malik provides ‘personalised cancer care’ services for colonic and rectal cancers using laparoscopic/trans-anal TME, TAMIS, and open procedural skills, manages anal cancer, applies principles of cyto-reductive surgery for advanced abdominal and pelvic cancers and manages benign anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures, pilonidal sinuses, recto-vaginal fistulas, gallstone disease and hernia. With proficient keyhole skills, he performs 95% of suitable cancer procedures laparoscopically compared to national average of 40%. He provides specialist services such as laparoscopic management of IBD/UC/Crohn’s disease including pouch surgery. He also provides specialist clinics in management of pelvic floor disorders such as rectal and complex organ prolapse, obstructive defecation syndrome and uses proficiently various procedures depending on individual patient circumstances such as laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy.
A JAG accredited endoscopist, Mr Malik also provides colonoscopy, polypectomy and gastroscopy services.

Mr Malik has completed two research dissertations in specialty of coloproctology and in general surgery. He is a clinical tutor and postgraduate research supervisor at University of Edinburgh/Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
