About
Mr B Ilango is a substantive consultant ophthalmic surgeon with specialist interest in Corneal Transplant & Lens Implants at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust.
He started his medical career in Southern India. He successfully completed the Higher Specialist Training Programme from the Birmingham Eye Centre having also worked at St Paul's Eye Unit Liverpool, Leicester Royal Infirmary and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
He has performed over 400 corneal transplant procedures, over 30000 cataract surgeries with monofocal/multifocal lens implants, >6000 Excimer laser Lasik/Lasek.
He performs PK, DSAEK, DALK, cross-linking treatments for keratoconus, trifocal/multifocal lens implants to achieve spectacle/contact lens freedom, phakic ICL procedures, femtosecond laser cataract surgery.
Mr llango has written chapters in Ophthalmic text books and trains junior doctors/fellows and his training has been rated as one of the best in the UK. He is a Royal College of Ophthalmologist certified Laser Refractive Surgeon (Cert LRS) and a Responsible Officer to the General Medical Council
He has been invited by GMTV's Dr Hilary Jones and Channel 4's Dr Christian Jessen to feature in their "Health Guide" as one of top ophthalmologist in the West Midlands region.
Mr Ilango has also set up a Charity Eye Hospital in rural India.

Mr Ilango has held the post of UK Chief Investigator to the Novagali - cyclosporine clinical trial. Recently, he has been appointed as a co-investigator in the NIHR FACT Trial with Moorfields Eye Hospital (femtosecond Cataract Trial).
