About
Professor Ben Turney is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Nuffield Health Oxford, The Manor Hospital. Ben is an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford and Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.
He was an undergraduate at Cambridge and undertook surgical training in the Oxford region. He has completed research for an MSc and DPhil (= PhD) in Oxford. In 2006, he obtained a diploma in university-level teaching from the University of Oxford.
Ben is trained in general urology and is available to treat all general urology problems. He has a special interest in kidney stones and and is the founder of the Oxford Stone Group. This group aims to improve kidney stone management through research and training. Ben has supervised eight DPhil students.
He also has a special interest in benign prostate surgery and provides advanced treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. One such option is Aquablation therapy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to effectively treat this condition.
Ben has driven the introduction of several new urological treatments in Oxford: fixed-site lithotripter (2009), 100W laser for stone and prostate surgery (2012), Urolift procedure (2017), REZUM procedure (2019), and Thulium fibre laser (2021). Ben introduced international training fellowships in stone surgery in Oxford (2013), one of only three such centres recognised in Europe. These fellowships have trained stone surgeons from Hong Kong, Germany, New Zealand, Turkey, and India.
He served for 5 years as an elected member of the National BAUS Section of the Endourology Committee. Ben is the Director of the Masters course in Surgical Science and Practice at the University of Oxford. He is the managing partner of Oxford Urology Associates.
Prof Turney does not see patients under 18 years old.
