About
Mr Daniel Thornton is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Leeds General Infirmary. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds.
Mr Daniel Thornton graduated from the University of Leeds Medical School and completed his specialist training in Plastic Surgery in the Yorkshire region. Following this, he undertook further training in hand surgery, comprising two nationally recognized advanced training fellowships in hand surgery (Pulvertaft Centre, Derby and Leeds General Infirmary). He also successfully passed the Diploma in Hand Surgery.
Mr Thornton’s interests include medical education and he regularly teaches on postgraduate hand surgery and advanced trauma and life support courses run by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, in addition to regionally organized courses in hand and plastic surgery.
Mr Thornton offers a comprehensive range of plastic, hand and aesthetic surgery procedures. His private practice mirrors his NHS specialist interests of hand surgery, skin cancer, breast surgery, abdominoplasty and body contouring surgery following excess weight loss.

Mr Daniel Thornton is the Audit & Clinical Governance Lead for Plastic Surgery, in addition to being a member of the surgical team for the hand transplant programme at Leeds General Infirmary.
He is particularly interested in Medical / Surgical Education regularly participating as a faculty member on the following courses:- Practical Skills in Hand Surgery Course (Royal College of Surgeons of England, London);- ATLS (Advanced Trauma & Life Support) Provider, Reverification & Instructor Courses (Royal College of Surgeons of England, Harrogate).
Personal interests
Mr Daniel Thornton lives in North Yorkshire with his family and enjoys walking and golf as leisure activities in addition to following the mixed fortunes of Nottingham Forest.

MPhil University of Sheffield (2007)
Mr Thornton undertook a 1 year period of laboratory based research during his post-graduate training, gaining a Masters in Philosophy.
His research involved the manipulation of a reconstructed human skin model to investigate mechanisms of wound and skin graft healing, and to identify ways in which the in-vitro wound environment could be modified to reduce contraction.
In addition M.Thornton has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals presented both nationally and internationally.
