I am a highly experienced and dedicated Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in lower limb surgery – particularly hip surgery and joint replacement. I provide a thorough and effective service which successfully caters for individual requirements and aims to achieve the best possible outcome for my patients. I have wide-ranging expertise in hip surgery and joint replacement, advising on and treating conditions such as hip and knee arthritis, hip impingement, hip tendon problems, hip fractures, as well as problems related to failing hip replacements and second opinions. I have a particular interest and expertise in hip replacement surgery, especially for younger patients, complex cases, and hip revision surgery.

I believe that important decisions regarding surgical treatment are made collaboratively by the patient and surgeon, after a thorough consultation, examination and investigations as necessary. There is no substitute for a patient’s unhurried discussion with an experienced clinician – I am committed to achieving the best possible results for my patients.

My London and Surrey private practice specialises in hip surgery and joint replacement. I have been an NHS Consultant since 1995 and continue to run a busy joint replacement practice at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and SWLEOC, which opened as a pioneering NHS orthopaedic treatment centre in 2004. I qualified from Westminster Hospital in 1985 and undertook my surgical and orthopaedic training around London, being admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons in London and Edinburgh in 1989. After a hip surgery fellowship in Switzerland, I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton and Kingston Hospital.

I was involved from the outset in 2004 with setting up the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) and was Medical Director there from 2013 to 2017. I have a particular interest and expertise in hip replacement surgery, especially younger patients, complex cases and hip revision surgery. Virtually all my work is lower limb joint replacement and I carry out a high volume of hip and knee replacement surgery at SWLEOC and privately.

A successful modern joint replacement offers relief from pain and return to excellent function – all my patient outcomes are carefully monitored through a research programme at SWLEOC and through the submission of cases to the National Joint Registry (NJR). A choice of implants is used, ensuring the best available option for the individual patient. I have been a regular invited faculty member at international hip meetings in areas such as ceramic bearing surfaces, uncemented implant fixation and revision surgery.

Conditions I can advise on and treat include joint replacement for painful hip and knee arthritis, hip impingement, hip tendinopathies, hip fractures and fractures around hip replacements. I am also an expert in revision hip surgery and problems with failing hip replacements, including metal-on-metal hip issues and second opinions.

In addition to my joint replacement work, I am also very experienced in lower limb amputation surgery having been the orthopaedic surgeon for the renowned Roehampton Rehabilitation Unit since 1995.
