About

Mr Demetri Manasses has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust since 2016, and leads the glaucoma service at the renowned Bristol Eye Hospital, the largest unit in the South West. He has performed thousands of glaucoma and cataract procedures and is responsible for introducing many of the most recent innovations in glaucoma treatment to the NHS service. These include Minimally Invasive Glaucoma surgery (MIGs) and Minimally Invasive Bleb surgery.

Following his ophthalmology training in the South West, Demetri undertook subspecialist glaucoma fellowships at NHS hospitals in Cheltenham, Bristol and Manchester.

His interests include cataract surgery, surgical innovation in glaucoma surgery and the management of complex secondary glaucoma. He is committed to improving the quality of care delivered to patients. The Eye Assessment Clinic which he helped conceive and set up in Bristol was honoured in the NHS Parliamentary Awards in 2022.

Mr Manasses teaches ophthalmology and is the Specialty Tutor responsible for general ophthalmic training at Bristol Eye Hospital. The Bristol Glaucoma Fellowship attracts applicants from around the world. He has also undertaken a post-graduate research fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

A proud Bristolian, Demetri lives in the city, and in his spare time plays for his local cricket team. He is also learning the ukulele.
