Mr Dimitri Pournaras

Mr Dimitri Pournaras is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon at Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital. He has dedicated his career in the treatment of obesity and obesity-associated diseases.

Working with Verve Health Group, he provides all types of laparoscopic (keyhole) obesity surgery procedures including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding and revision procedures.

Mr Pournaras's training has taken him from the southwest of England to Cambridge, Norwich, Sweden and Japan, with a PhD from Imperial College London. Committed to world class research in the field of obesity care, Mr Pournaras ultimately aims to identify the appropriate combination of treatments, personalised to individual patients. He collaborates with colleagues from all over the world in research and contributes to training events nationally and globally. His scientific research is a continuation of his work as a doctor and defines his interactions with people living with obesity on a daily basis.

Mr Pournaras’s NHS practice is at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, which is the regional tertiary referral Bariatric Centre. He also provides laparoscopic surgery for upper GI surgery and particularly gallstone disease, usually performed as day case or enhanced recovery short stay.
