About
Mr Dincer Aktuerk is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, and the Clinical Lead for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery at Barts Heart Centre based in the City of London. He is the only Robotic Cardiac Surgeon in London and offers unmatched expertise in keyhole heart surgery.
Mr Aktuerk graduated from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, in Medicine in 2006. Notably, during his final year, he completed a prestigious cardiac surgery fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa – the very institution where Christiaan Barnard performed the world’s first successful heart transplant.
Dincer undertook higher specialist training at the Heart Hospital part of UCL in London and the esteemed Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. He completed a prestigious fellowship in heart failure surgery and transplantation at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia. This fellowship equipped him with advanced skills in managing patients with weakened hearts and led to him being a crucial part of the team that conducted the first successful ‘heart in a box’ transplant procedure in Australia. This was featured in Miracle Hospital, a National Geographic documentary on advances in heart surgery. Around this time, significant advancements were also being made in minimally invasive keyhole heart surgery, leading to accelerated recovery, improved outcomes, and enhanced patient satisfaction.
Recognising the potential of these advancements, Dincer expanded his expertise by training in keyhole aortic and mitral valve therapies at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Robert-Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany. These minimally invasive procedures provide alternatives to traditional open-heart surgery for coronary surgery and valve repair or replacement. With consistent results, a growing reputation for excellence, and patients seeking his expertise from around the world, Dincer’s impact in cardiac surgery has gained national and international recognition.
In a testament to his expertise, Dincer is regularly invited to proctor and help introduce minimally invasive heart surgery to other cardiac surgery units in the UK and abroad.
Patient Testimonial
"When I found out I needed heart bypass surgery (CABG), I wanted a second opinion particularly using robotic/non-invasive urgery. Mr Aktuerk’s name stood out as a leading surgeon in this field. I reached out to Mr Aktuerk who was very respectful of my questions, and we had an honest discussion on what would serve me best now and going forward, as I have a young family. Our discussion left me feeling confident in his ability, and alleviated anxiety. After the operation my family and I were overjoyed with the great service and care received from Mr Aktuerk and his team. They were very attentive and made what I had expected to a difficult and traumatic experience much easier. I felt I had received the best possible care. Overall, I would say that Mr Aktuerk and his team provided an excellent and caring service that I won’t forget. He has frankly saved and improved my life. I am truly very grateful for his help and his team. Thank you."
