About
Mr Mughal was born in Birmingham and graduated from Leeds University in Medicine with Honours in Biochemistry, awarded The William Macadem Prize in Medicine. He completed his basic surgical and specialist training in the West Midlands and after completing the Knee Fellowship in Derby, was appointed as a Consultant at Newcross Hospital, Wolverhampton.
His substantial surgical experience includes over 1000 knee and hip replacements. He has a specialist interest in all types of knee surgery including patients with long standing instability symptoms. As a result Mr Mughal now has one of the largest surgical practice in the west midlands for kneecap instability as well as significant experience in all sports related knee injuries.
He has published the world’s largest series combining alignment surgery and ligament surgery to stabilize a dislocating knee cap amongst his previous publications that include a technique to realign a knee cap that is widely used.
He has massive experience in deformity correction (knock kneed, bow legged) for both adolescents and adults. One of a few surgeons correcting miserable malalignment syndrome. He provides a bespoke approach using computer / 3D modelling to correct deformities and preserve osteoarthritic joints. Coupled with procedures to regenerate cartilage allows him to provide a comprehensive service to his patients.
Mr Mughal also carries out a significant number of partial knee replacements which he is happy to carry out as daycase procedures. These procedures recover quickly as they are done through a small incision and now can last almost just as long as a total knee replacement.
Mr Mughal has performed thousands of spinal injections for symptoms of low back pain and sciatica.
