About
Mr Gurpal Toor graduated with his medical degree from Guy’s Kings & St Thomas’ Medical School, Kings College London in 2004. During this time, he was awarded the IFMSA research award, the Alan Pentacoste Prize, Ethicon Foundation Award, Eyesight International Fellowship and BCLA Dallos Award in addition to double distinction. He undertook comprehensive medical training and was awarded the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians shortly after becoming a junior doctor. After completing his ophthalmology training in Yorkshire, he worked in Hyderabad (India) in specialist stem cell research, corneal transplantation, and trauma. He then undertook two further fellowships in Bristol and London to gain specialist training in complex cataract and glaucoma eye surgery at the prestigious Bristol Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital. He also completed the postgraduate diploma in cataract and refractive surgery, working with some of the most renowned international experts.
Consultant Expertise
After his training, Mr Gurpal Toor was appointed as a consultant in South Warwickshire. Since in post, he has reworked the glaucoma department to the benefit of NHS patients to allow greater access to care. This work has been commended nationally by NHS improvement (England) and the department recently won 3 prestigious national awards to recognise the world-class care on offer. Mr Gurpal Toor has also helped to drive access to world-class cataract surgery to NHS patients. This has helped to implement new surgical techniques and refractive technology to improve the clarity of vision patients can achieve.

Mr Toor is a keen cyclist and member of the National Trust and hopes to explore the surrounding areas of beauty in the region following relocation with his young family

Clinical and research interests include non-penetrating and micro-invasive glaucoma treatment, trans-scleral and endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation, combined cataract and glaucoma surgery, and spectacle independence following cataract surgery (including multifocal lens implantation, toric IOLs and incisional refractive surgery).
