Having completed his medical school training at Guy’s Hospital, London, Mr Selmon finished basic surgical training in the South East of England. He undertook Specialist Registrar training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the South East London rotation. His final year of training was spent in the Spinal Unit of the Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia. This was a Neuro-Orthopaedic Fellowship in adults. On his return in 2003 he was appointed as a Consultant to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings. Here he has developed his interest in adult spinal surgery and this now forms the vast majority of his practice.
Mr Selmon is involved in teaching and training medical students and junior doctors as well as Specialist Registrars. He organises spinal courses in London for orthopaedic registrars in training. He is also an examiner for the FRCS (Orth) examination.

Mr Selmon has been involved in peer-reviewed publications looking at specific spinal procedures as a registrar. He wrote a book entitled Common Spinal Disorders Explained. He has recently written a chapter in reference book for the FRCS (Orth) examination.
