Mr Ian Grant is a Plastic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hand surgery, he was appointed as a substantive Consultant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge in 2005. He started the first regular children’s hand surgery clinic at Addenbrooke’s in 2007, and now sees more than 180 referrals each year. His interests include adult and children’s hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, skin cancer, and cosmetic surgery. In the outpatient clinic Mr Grant will see children from birth if they have been referred by a GP or consultant. His work includes reconstruction after trauma or after surgery for cancer. He is a core member of the Addenbrooke’s skin cancer mutli-disciplinary team.
Mr Grant has completed the required assessment and review to be listed by the Royal College of Surgeons as a “Certified Cosmetic Surgeon” receiving certification from the Intercollegiate Cosmetic Surgery Oversight Committee. As such he is on the General Medical Council's specialist register and has demonstrated to RCS England that his training, professional skills, clinical skills and knowledge are of a satisfactory standard. His areas of certifications are cosmetic breast surgery and cosmetic body contouring surgery his areas of practice are, breast reduction, mastopexy, breast augmentation and abdominoplasty.
Mr Grant was the Clinical Director for Plastic Surgery at Addenbrooke’s between 2010 and 2014, he is currently a Cambridge University senior clinical tutor and was elected to the Council of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2012. He is a supervisor for the interface fellowship in hand surgery, and a Tutor for the Hand Surgery Diploma. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume). He has previously been a “programme director” for the Cambridge first year (FY1) doctors.
Mr Grant trained in Medicine at Oxford University. He carried out plastic surgery training in Salisbury, East Grinstead, Mount-Vernon, and Cambridge Hospitals before undertaking fellowship training including hand surgery, aesthetic surgery, and microsurgery, at Hospitals in Melbourne Australia and at St James’s Hospital Leeds.
Mr Grant does medicolegal work, he was awarded the Cardiff University/Bond Solon Certificate in Expert Reporting.

Mr Grant was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine from Oxford University for a thesis produced after two years of full-time research into wound healing and scarring, carried out at the Blonde McIndoe Institute in East Grinstead. He is a regular reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery and has published more than 30 original articles in the field of patient safety, burns surgery, hand surgery, cosmetic surgery, and congenital anomalies. He is the author of book chapters on tissue engineering, wound healing, and children’s hand surgery and has given invited lectures on peripheral nerve injuries, tendon repair, and children’s hand surgery.
