About
Mr Jake Timothy is a Consultant Neurosurgeon who has worked at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2003. He has now left his full time NHS role role but retains an honorary contract with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and supports consultant colleagues with complex neurosurgical cases when required.
Having trained at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London and worked in Neurosurgery at King’s Hospital, London, he completed his neurosurgical training and went on to obtain his MD thesis and was the first neurosurgeon to become the National Spinal Fellow in Leeds in 2002.
He pioneered and introduced many new techniques to the Yorkshire region including interspinous distractors, artificial disc replacements, minimally invasive surgery, extreme lateral approaches and was awarded a clinical excellence in service delivery for the vertebroplasty service set up. Mr Timothy also runs a multidisciplinary clinic with a pain specialist and spinal physiotherapists.

Research
He is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in the University of Leeds and has had many research grants awarded and over 50 scientific publications. He spends a lot of his time training junior doctors (recently Foundation Program Training Director) and spinal surgeons who have gone on to be consultant spinal surgeons around the UK. He also teaches on a Diploma in Clinical Education course.
