About
Mr Platt is a Consultant lower limb surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery.
He commenced his medical studies in 1994 at St Mary’s Hospital, London and qualified in 2001 with a Distinction in Surgery. He was a prize-winner for his overall performance in final medical exams.
Prior to completing his medical degree, Mr Platt took time out to study for two additional degrees. In 1997 he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Imperial College, London where he undertook research into Multiple Sclerosis and two years later, he was awarded a scholarship University College, Oxford to complete a Master of Science degree in Diagnostic Imaging. His pioneering research into salivary gland imaging as part of his Diagnostic Imaging degree was presented at national and international meetings.
Mr Platt completed his higher Orthopaedic surgical training on the London North-West Thames training programme, honing his skills in Central London specialist centres including Charing Cross Hospital and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital as well as several busy District General Hospitals. He undertook subspecialist fellowship training in soft tissue knee surgery and knee replacement at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Kent.
He returned to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to take up an appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon where he spent two years before moving on to Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital, serving the patients of North West London between 2017 and 2024.
Having completed 10 years working as an NHS consultant, he now works wholly in private practice in the Surrey/Berkshire/North West London areas.
Special interests
Mr Platt's interests encompass treatment of arthritis of the hip and knee, and sports injuries. He regularly performs partial and total knee replacement and hip replacement procedures. He also offers a range of non-surgical treatments for knee arthritis including the new Arthrosamid® injectable knee arthritis treatment which can provide effective pain relief for several years.
Arthrosamid® injection to treat knee osteoarthritis
Mr Platt has particular expertise in performing unicondylar knee replacement, also known as partial knee replacement or half knee replacement and has performed many of these procedures. He offers this surgery to all potential suitable recipients. He offers partial knee replacement with either the Oxford® partial knee replacement or using the Mako® robot.
Mr Platt has completed his Mako® certification but has experience of robotic surgery dating back to 2008 when training at Charing Cross Hospital under Professor Justin Cobb, the originator of the Acrobot, one of the first robotic systems. He has also used the Stanmore Instruments robotic system prior to the current Mako® system.

Mr Platt has expertise in treating patients with anterior knee pain, also known as front of knee pain, and patients with kneecap or patella instability and dislocations. He offers surgical and non-surgical treatments for these patients working in close conjunction with his Radiologist and Physiotherapist colleagues.

Mr Platt is a member of the British Patellofemoral Society.
Personal interests
He competed at the National Schools Athletics Championships in the Octathlon, Decathlon and Javelin events.
Mr Platt is an ex-2nd category road racing cyclist, a sport which he took up in his thirties. He builds and maintains all his own bicycles and continues to ride when time allows.
He enjoys travel, skiing, good food, and spending time with his family.
Mr Platt maintains a keen interest in woodwork, DIY, mechanics and motorsport, which he has indulged variously through the years by building and racing go-karts at school, racing model cars and more recently through property renovation and working on his car.

Mr Platt has published several articles on a variety of orthopaedic topics covering both the knee and ankle, on surgical techniques and he has written a book for prospective FRCS exam candidates.
His MSc research on novel salivary gland imaging techniques was presented at national and international meetings.
