About
Mr Joseph is an award-winning fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip & knee joint replacements, including revision hip replacements, and complex orthopaedic trauma.
Mr Joseph studied medicine as an undergraduate at the University of Glasgow, graduating with a commendation, MB ChB (Comm). During this time he also undertook a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine from which he graduated with Honours, BSc.Med.Sci (Hon).
After University, Mr Joseph remained in the West of Scotland for basic surgical training and higher surgical (registrar) training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. During higher surgical training all surgeons undertake the Fellowship exam (FRCS), and in 2012, Mr Joseph was awarded the Arthur Edward Burton Memorial Award for attaining the highest mark in this exam (Part I). Mr was subsequently awarded the FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2013 and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
After completing his registrar training in 2014, Mr Joseph undertook a fellowship in complex hip and knee arthroplasty (replacements), including revision arthroplasty, in the University of Wirral Hospitals NHS Trust. During this, he gained expertise in all forms of primary and revision hip and knee replacement. He has also undertaken fellowship training in complex trauma in the UK at University Hospital Coventry and Warwick Major Trauma Centre, and a travelling fellowship to Tygerberg Hospital, University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. For his travelling fellowship, Mr Joseph received prestigious fellowship awards from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the West of Scotland Orthopaedic Research Society.
Mr Joseph has been an NHS Consultant since 2015, initially at Royal Alexandra Hospital and now at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow. His elective practice is focused solely on the management of hip & knee conditions. He regularly performs partial knee replacements, total knee replacements (including complex primary), total hip replacements (including complex primary) and revision (redo) hip replacements. Mr Joseph also has an interest in complex orthopaedic trauma and he has separate complex traumas list in which he regularly performs operations for these injuries.
Mr Joseph strongly believes in providing his patients with the best possible care individualised to their needs, using well-established surgical techniques combined with modern, cutting edge technologies/treatments in order to do so: such as nSTRIDE® APS injection treatment for mild-to-moderate knee arthritis, which he introduced to Scotland in 2021 (only available at Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital), and robotic-assisted hip & knee joint replacement.
Mr Joseph is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), British Hip Society (BHS), Orthopaedic Trauma Society (OTS), European Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgeons (ESTES) and the AO Foundation.
