Mr Jonathan Pollock

Mr Pollock qualified in medicine from Oxford University in 1990 following undergraduate training in Cambridge. His neurosurgical career included training in Oxford, Nottingham and subspecialist training at the National Hospital, Queen Square, London. He was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon at Essex Neurosciences Centre in 2002.

He has an extensive cranial neurosurgery practice including treatment of brain tumours in adults especially Meningioma, tumours of the pituitary such as adenoma and craniopharyngioma and tumours at the skull base. He treats trigeminal neuralgia and peripheral nerve conditions.

He has developed with colleagues a multi-disciplinary team at the Essex Neurosciences Centre which has worked together since 2002 in the treatment of complex skull base tumours especially vestibular schwannoma, meningioma and malignant tumours of the skull base. He has treated over 450 meningiomas as a consultant including many requiring complex surgical treatment. The team have made frequent academic presentations regarding the treatment of these tumours.

His spinal work is focused on degenerative disorders in adults, especially the surgical and non-surgical management of neurological symptoms associated with spinal disorders such as brachalgia (arm pain) and sciatica (lower limb pain) resulting from degenerative disease. When surgery is required Mr Pollock places the emphasis on preserving motion in the spine and reducing the patient’s time in hospital to the minimum.

He works closely with an excellent group of colleagues at Holly Hospital and nearby in physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, rheumatology and anaesthetics to achieve the best pain relief possible.

Mr Pollock is a co-founder and Treasurer of the British-Irish Meningioma Society. He was the Clinical Director for Neurosciences at Essex Neurosciences Centre from 2012-2015 and is currently the Lead for NeuroOncology (treatment of brain and spine tumours). He has served as a member of the SAC in Neurosurgery (the national training body). He has served on the authors group for the National Neurosurgical examination and he takes part in the National Selection of Neurosurgery trainees.
