About

Mr Jefferson has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry since 2006. He trained in medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, representing Oxford as an oarsman. He undertook surgical and urological training in Bristol and the Southwestern Deanery. In 1999 he achieved the highest mark in Europe for the European Board of Urology In-service Examination.  He was admitted to the Specialist Register for Urology in 2006.
 
After completing his training, he undertook a uro-oncology fellowship in Bristol to gain comprehensive experience of complex open and laparoscopic urological surgery. In 2014, with Mr MacDonald, he started a robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) service in Coventry and Warwickshire.  They have performed more than 700 RARP and offer state of the art diagnostics including transperineal template and fusion biopsy of the prostate.  Mr Jefferson contributes outcome data to the BAUS Cancer Registry and National Prostate Cancer Audit.
 
He has recently worked with CMR surgical to develop clinical utilisation of the VersiusTM surgical robot -  https://youtu.be/xvW1vlfKD3o.
 
Mr Jefferson chaired the West Midlands expert advisory group for urological cancer from 2013-2018, is active in undergradutae and postgraduate teaching.

Mr Jefferson has published across the spectrum of urological cancers and maintains ongoing interests in bladder cancer (co-investigator on the £1.5M BladderPath study with Birmingham and Sheffield), ketamine injury to the urinary tract and prostate cancer.
