Mr Dalrymple-Hay graduated from the Royal London Hospital Medical School in 1990, having completed a BSc (1st Class Hons) as an undergraduate. He obtained a PhD whilst training in Cardiac Surgery at Southampton General Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney before becoming a consultant in 2001.
Malcolm has been responsible for the introduction of a number of new procedures or treatments in the South West and he lectures both nationally and internationally on his specialist areas of interest.
He is committed to open and transparent reporting of clinical outcomes. His independently analysed risk stratified results demonstrate that he remains one of the clinically most active surgeons in the UK with a lower than expected operative mortality.

Sir Malcolm Dalrymple-Hay is one of five directors of Exeter Heart, which owns non-invasive cardiology equipment. Consultants who use this equipment charge their own fees for doing so. A fee for use of the equipment is negotiated between Exeter Heart or Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital and patients' private medical insurer by reference to the investigatory procedure undertaken. Exeter Heart's staff, maintenance and other running costs come out of this hospital fee.
