About
Mr Hilton studied for his medical degree at Cambridge and Oxford Universities, as well as completing a Psychology degree during an optional year of study. His ENT specialist training was in the South West of the UK, based around the Bristol area.
During his specialist training he also travelled overseas for dedicated speciality fellowships, working in Toronto, Canada and Darwin, Northern Australia.
Mr Hilton covers a comprehensive range of general ENT referrals including adult and children’s ear problems, nasal and sinus conditions, throat and voice problems. He has a subspecialist interest in the management of all types of ear problems; including chronic ear disease needing surgery, and associated ear/balance problems such as dizziness, tinnitus, Meniere’s disease and hearing problems. He also runs dedicated voice clinics and has a medico-legal practice with particular experience as an expert witness in the area of noise-induced hearing loss.
He holds an additional academic appointment as the Clinical sub-dean for Exeter University Medical school and is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons final ENT examinations.
For the past 7 years he has travelled to Nepal on a regular basis to take part in ear surgery charity camps run by a UK based charity, BRINOS (Britain Nepal Otology Service). During a 10 day stay the group typically perform 140-150 major ear operations for patients who may travel several from surrounding areas to attend the camp.
Other interests
Mr Hilton contributes audit data to the National Otology audit database.

Mr Hilton has an active research profile. He is an author on several clinical reviews in the Cochrane Database of Systematic reviews and regularly peer-review journal articles for the British Medical Journal and Annals of College of Surgeons, as well as on-going research into the epidemiology of Meniere’s disease and vocal fold dysfunction in patients with severe asthma.
