About
Mark Farndon is an experienced Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon and lower limb specialist.
He has a primary interest in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including sports injuries, joint replacement, deformity correction, arthroscopic (keyhole), minimally invasive and revision surgery. He has a secondary interest in arthroscopic knee surgery and knee replacement.
Mark undertook specialist fellowships in both foot & ankle surgery and knee surgery during his training.
He was appointed as a consultant in 2010, has a busy practice in Harrogate and is the Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
Mark works closely with a variety of specialist surgical colleagues, physiotherapists, podiatrists and orthotists.
He believes in providing the highest quality clinical information in an understandable manner. Excellent communication with thorough explanations of available options, allows informed choices to be made regarding treatment.

Other interests
Mark's interest in teaching and training began whilst working for Newcastle University as a Demonstrator in Anatomy and Clinical Skills.
He has been involved in training other doctors on Advanced Trauma and Life Support (ATLS) and ATLS Instructor courses for more than 10 years.
More recently he has been invited to teach as an Instructor on pitch-side emergency courses for the Rugby Football Union (Immediate Care in Sport) and the Football Association (AREA).
Mark is the Sector Tutor for Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training, representing Harrogate on the regional Surgical Training Committee and organises the annual regional mock FRCS (Tr&Orth) exams. He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor to a number of junior doctors in training and teaches a variety of local and national instructional courses.
Personal interests
Mark enjoys cycling, running, triathlon, snowboarding, cooking, spending time with his family and watching his sons play rugby.

Research
Mark's research interests are varied and diverse with numerous publications and presentations on foot & ankle surgery and knee surgery. Research findings have been presented locally, nationally and internationally.
Recent activities include a chapter on subtalar fusion in the newly published EFORT orthopaedic surgery textbook, presentations to the EFORT/BOA Congress, Edinburgh Orthopaedic Trauma Symposium, European Foot and Ankle Society and Pan-Arab Orthopaedic Associations and guest lectures to meetings in Oman and China.
Recent publications in peer-reviewed journals include papers on minimally invasive hindfoot surgery in Foot & Ankle International and complex ankle/hindfoot reconstruction in Foot & Ankle Surgery.
Current activity includes projects on injection therapy for Mortons neuroma and early weight-bearing after minimally bone graft for midfoot fusion surgery, with articles in preparation after accepted national and international presentations.
