About

Neil Barber was appointed as Consultant Urological Surgeon to Frimley Park Hospital in 2005 into a pre-existing team already dedicated to providing high quality care through sub specialisation. His remit to continue and enhance the provision of minimally invasive surgical treatments to patients through the department. Neil attended Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School and after completing his general surgical training he received 6 years specialist training in Urology on the South Thames Scheme. During that time he has developed particular interests in benign and malignant prostate and kidney disease and in the application of newer technologies in Urology.

At King’s College Hospital, London he introduced a high-power KTP laser system for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostate disease to the UK in 2002. He has remained at the forefront of the development and delivery of this technology, lecturing and teaching on the surgical technique both nationally and internationally. His expertise and interest in the surgical management of BPH has also meant that he is at the cutting edge of newer technologies including the use of the plasma button or ‘mushroom’ and more recently in the prostatic urethral lift procedure.

As a consultant urological surgeon, Neil delivers a breadth of services for general urological conditions, including general waterworks problems, scrotal swellings and penile conditions. Beyond this, he provides a regional service for urological disorders of the kidney and ureter, including tumours and drainage problems. Neil is one of the largest volume kidney or renal cancer surgeons in the UK, performing open, laparoscopic (or key-hole) and robotic assisted procedures including the use of cryo-ablative technology in the treatment of this increasingly common disease.

Special interests

Laparoscopic, robotic and minimally invasive treatments including laser prostatectomy, lower urinary tract symptoms, benign and malignant prostate and kidney disease.
