About
Mr Oliver Cassell qualified as a doctor in 1989 and trained in Plastic Surgery in Oxford and Wessex Rotation. He gained further experience in Specialist Plastic Surgery Units in Australia, USA and Ireland before returning as a Consultant to Oxford in 2001.
His NHS Practice is predominantly skin cancer & treatments of problematic cysts, lipomas and skin lesions. He undertakes all aspects of skin cancer surgery including removal of BCC, SCC and melanomas. He is a specialist in sentinel lymph node biopsy and has performed over 700 procedures.
He also undertakes the more routine removal of skin lumps, cysts, lipomas and blemishes, and administers anti-wrinkle injections. He has promoted the used of dermoscopy to aid skin cancer diagnosis and is co-founder of the international dermoscopy course for surgeons.
He has a Masters in Surgery from the University of Melbourne for research in the field of tissue engineering and co-authors the Oxford Handbook for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

Research
The main focus of Mr Cassell's research interest is in Skin Cancer.
He has authored publications on BCC & SCC. His main interest is in sentinel node biopsy and he regularly publishes outcomes from this procedure.
He has been a co-investigator on a national trial in Merkel Cell cancer and principal investigator on national and multinational trials.
He works closely with the medical oncology department in trials of immune treatments post melanoma surgery.
He is co-author of the Oxford Handbook of Plastic & Reconstructive surgery and invited author for articles on evidence based care & textbook chapters in skin cancer.
