I enjoy spending time with my family and keeping fit through cardiovascular and resistance training. To further this interest and to support my professional interest in the management of obesity, I am a qualified Personal Trainer.

Research

I have been actively engaged in research throughout my career, and this strong research background provides the core for basing my clinical practice on the latest evidence.

I have published papers on gallstone disease, hernias, Barrett’s oesophagus, oesophageal and gastric cancers, and weight loss surgery.

I was awarded a Research Fellowship from The Royal College of Surgeons of England to study Barrett’s oesophagus and received a research doctorate (Doctor of Medicine) from the University of Exeter for this work. This specialist interest has continued, and I am Chief Investigator on a large, international randomised trial in this field (Barrett’s Oesophagus Surveillance Study, BOSS).
